YPJ Commander Expresses Opposition to Disintegration of Syria

Syria (Tasnim) – Commander of the Kurdish Women`s Protection Units (YPJ) Nasrin Abdullah referred to presence of many ethnic groups in the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and said they oppose any move to disintegrate Syria.

“We do not consider any action for dividing Syria as correct,” Abdullah, who commands female units in the ongoing operation to recapture Daesh (known as ISIL, ISIS) stronghold in Syria, Raqqa, made the remarks in an interview with Tasnim.

She referred to US failed plans in Syria and noted that US tried many ways but was not successful and, accordingly, reviewed its strategy “when it observed our (SDF) forces’ capabilities in the fight against Daesh”.

“I accept the fact that US delivers arms to us but it does not mean that we plan to implement the US demands. Our ties with the US is confined to fighting Daesh and the two sides have always underlined this issue,” Abdullah added.

She noted that presence of women in the Raqqa operation is a symbolic move to make Daesh understand that women are able to accomplish any mission even fighting in the battlefields.

There are not much relations between SDF forces and the Syrian government forces, she said, but at the same time added that they have experienced no conflicts with the Syrian forces.
